Scope of Works: The Grade II listed building is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment. Capstan is employed by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCoS) to carry out Passive Fire protection throughout the building under our third-party accreditation with FIRAS.
Fire door surveys were first conducted on each floor highlighting remedial works to penetration sealing, FD30 sets, FD60 sets and fire door maintenance to bring the building back to compliance level. As part of the package our qualified team removed asbestos from several risers within the structure and fire stopped them shortly after.
Whilst on-site, several risers containing asbestos were identified by Capstan. The removal of the asbestos was agreed as a variation to the JCT contract and Capstan carried out these works as an asbestos-licensed contractor. Subsequently, the asbestos removed created gaps in the building fabric which then required fire stopping.
The building was live throughout the works which proved difficult but our constant liaison with the College significantly reduced the impact on the building occupants.
