As part of the Overbury construction supply chain, we were engaged to decontaminate the M&E risers throughout the building to allow new services to be run feeding the new toilets being installed as part of a major refurbishment of the college.
Access to the risers was restricted so once the enclosures were built and under negative pressure we had to make the doorway bigger to allow operatives to enter and clean the risers and encapsulate the insulation as time was too short to remove the insulation whole as this required additional builders work within the risers to get access to the insulation. We also had to seal the floor grating to achieve negative pressure once we entered the space.
The risers were also full of general waste and rubbish, so we had to ensure the single air/bag locks were of sufficient size to pass bulkier items through once double-bagged.
The works were deemed major and notified under the 14 days required by HSE, the areas were also deemed as restricted access, so recovery equipment was on standby in case of emergency.
We commenced and completed the works on time to allow other trades to complete their work for the project to remain on schedule.
